Pavilion has seized four new drinks titles by Honey Spencer, Oz Clarke, Bert Blaize, Victoria Brzezinski and Ted Bruning.
Pavilion commissioning editor Kiron Gill acquired world all language rights for all the books, which will be published throughout 2023 and 2024.
First up is Oz Clarke’s The Story of Wine in 100 Bottles, acquired from Fiona Lindsay at Limelight Celebrity Management. The book takes the reader through the ages, from the first wines ever made to the very latest developments and challenges in the ever-moving world of winemaking. The synopsis said that “readers can enjoy Oz’s wit and expertise by a cosy fire with a glass of their favourite tipple to hand”. The book publishes in hardback on 9th November 2023.
In Natural Wine, No Drama, rights were acquired direct from world-renowned sommelier Honey Spencer. Filled with anecdotes, suggested wine and food pairings, interviews with winemakers, importers and sommeliers, Spencer shines a light particularly on the women breaking barriers in the industry. The aim of the book is to dispel myths and demystify jargon to make natural wine more accessible. This will publish in hardback on 11th April 2024.
Rights were also acquired directly from whisky writer Ted Bruning, for his untold story of English whisky, from its beginnings in the Lea Valley, all the way through to where the most coveted English whiskies can be found today. The synopsis said: “English producers are now at the forefront of whisky-producing innovation, making this book essential reading for any drinks enthusiast.” English Whisky will publish on 26th September 2024.
Finally, in A Winemaker’s Guide to Drinking the World, acquired direct from the authors, sommelier and journalist duo, Bert Blaize and Victoria Brzezinski, journey across the world’s most celebrated winemaking regions. The book will publish in hardback on 24th October 2024.
Gill said: “Our ambition is to make Pavilion the destination publisher for luxury books – and drinks are a key part of this market. These books shine a spotlight on the utterly captivating stories of wine and whisky-making, both throughout history and in the modern day. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with such brilliant authors – each one with a wealth of knowledge in their field.”
