Pavilion has signed up Yotam Ottolenghi’s writing partner Tara Wigley in a two-book deal.
Lucy Smith, commissioning editor, acquired world all language rights to How to Butter Toast (and other culinary confusions) plus one other book from Charlie Brotherstone at Brotherstone Creative Management. How to Butter Toast will publish on 14th September 2023.
Wigley is a recipe developer and writer for Ottolenghi and co-author of the bestselling Falastin (Ebury) and Ottolenghi Simple (Ebury). Her standalone book is described as “a recipe book without any recipes” instead using playful rhyming couplets to provide memorable answers to culinary conundrums such as: How long should I boil an egg? What’s the best way to crush garlic? How do I make mayonnaise, a martini or indeed the perfect cup of tea?
Wigley said: "After many years of cooking, and writing about food, How to Butter Toast has enabled me to get to the bottom of life’s great culinary mysteries. I’ve read, chopped, stirred, eaten (and rhymed!) my way through all the everyday recipes whose apparent simplicity was, somehow, evading me.”
Smith added: “Tara’s knowledge of ingredients and cooking is incredible, and her enthusiasm infectious. I’m so excited to share these clever and funny rhymes – with this book, cooking with confidence and flair becomes second nature.”
