Penguin Business will publish Cate Sevilla's guide to working titled How to Work Without Losing Your Mind.
Commissioning editor Lydia Yadi acquired world translation rights from Charlie Viney of The Viney Agency. The title will be published in October 2020.
How to Work Without Losing Your Mind is a "hilarious and relatable" guide to the messy, stressful and sometimes bizarre side of work that everyone experiences but no one talks about. Drawing on her experience at both giant corporations and scrappy startups, Sevilla will show readers how to deal with the manager from hell, avoid burnout and protect their mental health, decide whether to quit their job, ditch comparison culture, set boundaries and work out what they want from their career, among other things.
In her debut book, Sevilla opens up about the good, the bad and the ugly situations she’s found herself in at work. She has also interviewed an array of women from different industries to create an encouraging and practical guide to the demands, expectations and horrors of modern work.
Sevilla has led editorial teams for some of the world's largest media and tech companies—including Google, BuzzFeed and Microsoft. She was a founding member of BuzzFeed UK and later became editor-in-chief of the Pool, at the helm when the company collapsed.
Sevilla said: "This book is full of advice I really could have used at some of the tougher points in my career. Interviewing many women for this book, I know I’m not alone. I hope it will help people feel more comfortable and confident with their career, and make them laugh along the way."
Yadi added: "With her masterful storytelling and straight-talking advice, Cate Sevilla is a voice of reason that will guide readers through the highs and lows of office life. I’m delighted to be working with her on How to Work Without Losing Your Mind, a wonderfully honest and practical book for women who are struggling to survive (let alone thrive) in the modern workplace."
