Penguin Ireland has acquired two novels from Liz Nugent, author of psychological thrillers Unravelling Oliver and Lying in Wait (Penguin Ireland).
Patricia Deevy, editorial director at Penguin Ireland, acquired UK, Ireland and Commonwealth rights including Canada for the two novels from Marianne Gunn O'Connor at the Marianne Gunn O’Connor Literary Agency. They are scheduled for publication in 2017 and 2018.
Nugent’s second novel, Lying in Wait, is a "dark and twisty" noir about a woman who lives in the perfect house with her adoring husband and beloved son - but little does she know the one thing she wants to make her perfect life complete will lead to murder.
Her third book, second in the deal, is as yet untitled, will follow a 48-year-old Irish woman, down on her luck, who lives on the Côte d'Azur, posing as an English heiress.
Deevy said: "We are thrilled to have acquired Liz’s next two novels. She is a wonderful writer with a unique voice and a deliciously dark sensibility. She has taken the crime writing world by storm and she is going from strength to strength. A huge thank you to Marianne for bringing us such a fantastic author as Liz and her continued support for our work with her."
