Penguin Life has signed What Am I Missing? Uncover Your Blind-spot and Discover a Happier You from psychotherapist and podcast host Emma Reed Turrell.
Acting commissioning editor Amy McWalters acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Euan Thorneycroft at A M Heath. It will be published in March 2024.
"I’m absolutely delighted to be working with Amy and all at Penguin Life on What Am I Missing?, helping readers to better understand the blind-spots they unconsciously bring into their lives and relationships," commented Reed Turrell. "What Am I Missing? is the question I’m asked more than any other in my clinical practice, and through the stories and advice in the book, I hope that readers will be in a unique position to answer that question for themselves, helping them to live more authentic and empowered lives."
Reed Turrell, whose first book was Please Yourself: How to Stop People-Pleasing and Transform the Way You Live (HarperCollins), will provide a "relatable and actionable" guide to overcome blind-spots in awareness which affect relationships and damage mental health. Sharing case studies of how different blind-spots have affected her clients, Reed Turrell reveals four blind-spot profiles and provides practical tools to help readers identify them.
"I am so excited to be publishing Emma’s fascinating new book," said McWalters. "I felt seen from the moment I started reading her proposal, which is so crucial for a book like this to have an impact on readers’ lives. Emma is an incredibly talented, empathetic and eloquent psychotherapist, and I can’t wait for more people to feel the benefits of the sage advice in this book.’
