Penguin Life has scooped The Complete Guide to Memory: The Science of Strengthening Your Mind by neurologist Dr Richard Restak.
Commissioning editor Jamie Birkett acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Elena Silverberg at Skyhorse Publishing. The book will be published in February 2023.
As clinical professor of neurology at George Washington University, Restak has written more than 20 books on the human brain and lectured to Nasa and the Pentagon. The Complete Guide to Memory compiles “a career’s worth of wisdom into a practical, comprehensive guide” into how memory works, what can go wrong and provides tips and techniques to strengthen your memory. The tips include reading more fiction, “chunking” information and mind mapping to be more efficient and stave off conditions such as Alzheimer’s.
Birkett said: “At a time when global rates of dementia are sadly on the rise, and many of us are thinking about how to remember more information in an age of distractions, this readable, wise and practical book could not be more urgent or timely. I am delighted to be publishing an expert of Dr Restak’s calibre on the Penguin Life list.”
Restak said: “I’m very happy to have the opportunity of working with Jamie Birkett of Penguin Life on The Complete Guide to Memory. Penguin Life is the perfect fit for bringing to wide reader attention a lifetime (my lifetime) of experience on proven ways of greatly improving even an ordinary memory.”
