Penguin Michael Joseph will publish Rooza, Nadiya Hussain’s “culinary tribute” to Ramadan.
Ione Walder, non-fiction publisher, bought world all-language rights from Anne Kibel at AK Artist Management.
This will be Hussain’s 10th book with Penguin Michael Joseph. It will be published in hardback for £25 on 16th January 2025.
The publisher said: “During the month of Ramadan, the long hours of daylight fasting mean that, when mealtimes do arrive, food takes on a new significance as families come together to break their fast while observing the customs of the period and reflecting on their faith. Meals become an event, planned and anticipated, a chance to revisit favourites, embrace the traditional or try new things.
“Rooza takes the reader on an exploratory journey of Muslim cuisine while shining a light on the rituals, traditions and variety of dishes from across the Islamic world.
“The recipes are inspired by countries that have worshippers who observe Ramadan, and foods that are enjoyed by them all year round and during this holy month. With main meal and dessert inspiration for each of the 30 days, plus a selection of glorious feasting recipes ideal for the Eid festivities, this is a beautiful and timeless book to treasure.”
Hussain said: “For me as a mum and as the head of the kitchen, what we eat during the holy month of Ramadan is so important. It is this month that binds us as a family, intertwines us and holds us together through faith, worship, dedication and the meal we share at the end of another day. After not having eaten from sunrise, what I lay on the table at sunset really matters to me. It has to be nutritious, filling and, most of all, delicious.”
Walder added: “It has been a joy to work together to spin Nadiya’s recipes into a beautiful, inspirational resource that can be used year after year by those who observe Ramadan, while offering a journey of discovery to those who do not.”
