Penguin Michael Joseph has pre-empted a "pioneering book" on anxiety addiction by Owen O’Kane. Publisher Ione Walder pre-empted world all-language rights to Addicted to Anxiety from Mark Sammon at Fresh Partners.
The synopsis reads: "Addicted to Anxiety is a new, revolutionary approach to breaking the cycle of anxiety for people who may have tried other routes and continue to struggle. It will equip readers with the tools to identify their triggers and unpick the cyclical habits and behaviours that offer short-term relief only to perpetuate anxiety in the long run. Through practical exercises that help deactivate physical symptoms, techniques to recognise and disrupt addictive behaviours and strategies for navigating setbacks, Addicted to Anxiety will help readers break the habit of anxiety and form new, more productive behaviours for a calmer life."
O’Kane is a leading mental health expert with more than 25 years of clinical experience in physical and mental health.
He said: "I wholeheartedly believe people can get addicted to the process of anxiety. Breaking the habit is key. I’ve written the book I wish someone had given me many years ago. I hope it helps many people."
Walder said: "For those who suffer from anxiety—which indeed is many of us, and ever growing—the effects can be distressing and debilitating. So I believe this is a hugely important book which will offer new hope to all those who desperately seek an escape route for themselves or loved-ones. I feel very privileged to be publishing Owen, whose logical, compassionate, empowering approach to treatment stands to make a real and tangible difference to people’s lives."
The book will be published on 20th February 2025.
