Penguin Michael Joseph has pre-empted The Dark Pantheon, an "epic" Greek mythology fantasy trilogy by debut author A S Webb.
Editorial director Rebecca Hilsdon acquired world rights from Sebastian Godwin at David Godwin Associates, with the first instalment, Daughter of Chaos, publishing in hardback in early 2025. Following instalments will publish in 2026 and 2027.
The synopsis says: "Set in Ancient Greece, Daughter of Chaos, follows Danae, a fisherman’s daughter who is secretly fated for an epic destiny. For too long, the Gods have reigned with barbaric cruelty, and mortals have starved at their command. But when tragedy unleashes Danae’s otherworldly powers, an earth-shattering prophecy is set in motion – she was born to hunt the Gods and set the mortals free."
Hilsdon commented: "I was immediately gripped by this breathtaking, high-octane novel. Alexandra’s writing brings this epic mythological world and tale of prophecy, retribution and adventure to life. I am so excited to welcome her to Penguin Michael Joseph."
Webb added: "I couldn’t be happier that my trilogy has found a home at Penguin Michael Joseph. I was blown away by Rebecca and the team at PMJ’s passion for Daughter of Chaos and cannot wait to work on Danae’s story with such a fantastic publisher."
Webb studied English Literature and Theatre Studies at Leeds University, then gained an MA in Classical Acting at Drama Centre London. She has written several short films and plays, and was one of 10 writers selected for the Masterclass: Fiction course at City Lit.
