Penguin Michael Joseph (PMJ) has acquired Coleen Rooney’s autobiography, My Account, to be published on 9th November 2023.
Daniel Bunyard, head of non-fiction, acquired world all-language and serialisation rights from Paul Stretford, managing director of Triple S Group.
The publisher says My Account promises to “reveal the inside story of her legal battle with Rebekah Vardy, as well as offering a full account of her life to date: from childhood and her marriage to Wayne Rooney, all the way through to motherhood".
It goes on: “Coleen has been a figure of fascination and popularity since first being photographed aged 16 as the then-girlfriend of Wayne Rooney. Coleen’s career has included work as a columnist and presenter, but she has first and foremost been a hands-on mother to her and Wayne’s four sons.
“After her now infamous Twitter post in October 2019, in which she claimed that stories about her personal life were being leaked to the press through her private Instagram account, Coleen became embroiled in a highly public dispute with Rebekah Vardy, wife to footballer Jamie Vardy, which culminated in a High Court hearing for libel, in which she was fully vindicated.”
Rooney said: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Penguin Michael Joseph. My Account is an opportunity to tell my story in my way, from beginning to end. My highs and lows, triumphs and sad moments – and a few good laughs between the lines.”
Bunyard said: “Since a young age, Coleen has been a figure of fascination for the press and public, and never more so than during her long-running feud with Rebekah Vardy. Behind the sensational headlines, however, there’s a very human and relatable story that is not only about friendship, betrayal and bravery, but also family and love. Coleen has written an absolutely riveting book, as entertaining as it is revealing, and I’m really proud to be publishing it with her.”
