Penguin Michael Joseph (PMJ) has acquired David J P Phillips’ book High on Life: How to Naturally Harness the Power of Six Hormones and Revolutionise Yourself.
World English language rights were bought by senior commissioning editor Karolina Kaim from Edith Enberg at Enberg Agency. Originally published in Sweden in November 2022, it will publish for the first time in English in February 2024.
The publisher says High on Life teaches how to optimise your body’s chemical factory through understanding six key substances: dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, cortisol, endorphin and testosterone – and how they impact our mood and overall wellness. It goes on: “Our neurotransmitters are critical to becoming our best mental selves. This book is about how to lead yourself towards the future you desire.”
Phillips is a lecturer, author and coach who has collaborated with brands such as Google, Microsoft, Dell, Oracle and HP. He is also a TEDx speaker and shares content on TikTok, where he has over two million followers.
He said: “Our hormones and neurotransmitters affect just about everything in our bodies, including how we think and feel. If you learn to optimise your body’s chemical factory you can change your emotional state whenever you want. When do you want to be energised and full of dopamine? When do you want to be fully present and full of oxytocin? When do you want to be at ease and full of serotonin? When do you want to be euphoric and full of endorphins? When do you want to be confident and full of testosterone? High on Life will provide readers with the tools to harness our mind’s full potential. I’m honoured to be working with Penguin Michael Joseph to bring my book into the English language.”
Kaim said: “From ice baths and cold water swimming to exercising for endorphins, we’ve seen a growing appetite for people to better understand how our brains work and crucially, how to hack them. David’s book has rightfully been a huge success in Sweden and I’m delighted to be able to share his message to a wider, global audience.”
