A memoir by consultant forensic psychiatrist Dr Duncan Harding has been acquired by Penguin Michael Joseph publishing director Rowland White. World rights were acquired from Luigi Bonomi of the LBA Literary Agency.
The Criminal Mind weaves together the story of Harding’s life and career with gripping accounts of some of his most intriguing and challenging cases. A specialist member of the Parole Board for England and Wales, Dr Harding is the college lead for expert witnesses at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He lives in London.
The Criminal Mind will be published in hardback on 5th September 2024.
Harding said: "It’s an honour and privilege to see my life and work on the page in this book. As a young child I was terrified of violence, and I have dedicated my career to trying to understand it. I hope my journey helps the reader answer the inevitable question we ask ourselves when confronted with violence and cruelty: Why?"
White said: "I was completely drawn in from the moment I first started reading The Criminal Mind. The assurance, style and intelligence of the writing immediately brought to mind genre-defining books like Unnatural Causes, All That Remains, Unlawful Killings, The Jigsaw Man. It’s since been a privilege and an education to work with Duncan on the book, but also a tremendous reassurance to know that there are good and skilful people like him giving so much to keep us safe."
