Penguin will publish the sequel to Jordan B Peterson's 12 Rules for Life (Generic, 2018) globally on 2nd March 2021.
Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life will be released in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, India and South Africa in print and digital forms by Allen Lane, the hardback imprint of Penguin Press. The audio edition, read by the author, will be released on simultaneously by Penguin Random House Audio.
Peterson is a clinical psychologist and a professor at Harvard and the University of Toronto. In 12 Rules for Life — which has sold 373,780 copies through Nielsen BookScan's UK Total Consumer Market to date — he offered "an antidote to the chaos in our lives: eternal truths applied to modern anxieties".
In the sequel, Peterson will aim to show that part of life’s meaning comes from reaching out into the domain beyond what we know, and adapting to an ever-transforming world, says the publisher.
Peterson will remind readers that there are sources of strength on which everyone can draw: insights borrowed from psychology, philosophy, and humanity’s greatest myths and stories. By drawing on ancient wisdom, as well as "deeply personal" lessons from his own life and clinical practice, Beyond Order: 12 More Rules for Life will offer 12 new principles to "guide readers towards a more courageous, truthful and meaningful life".
In the book's introduction, Peterson comments: "I hope that people find this book as helpful personally as they seem to have found the first set of 12 rules. It has been a source of immense gratification that so many people have reported drawing strength from the thoughts and the stories I have had the privilege of bringing forth and sharing."
Peterson has launched a video announcing the book with a reading from the introduction which examines the question "Why Beyond Order?" which can be watched below.
