Penguin has signed a “gripping” YA fantasy trilogy from author and social media “sensation” Connie Glynn in six-figure deal.
Publishing director Ruth Knowles acquired world rights in a three-book deal from Richard Pike at C&W. The series will be edited by editorial director Linas Alsenas. The Cursed Melodies, the first book in the deal, will be published on 6th March 2025.
The Cursed Melodies charts the story of twins Astrid and Jonas, who are “kept away from nature” as doctors believe they share something “twisted and demonic... flowers whisper instructions, trees sing of their histories”.
Meanwhile, Gwen is determined to prove her worth after failing to get into Fountains Abbey, a “venerable school” for magical peoples. When the twins’ lives collide with Gwen’s, all of their unique abilities are revealed. “But will their combined powers be enough to stop what’s rising in the darkness?”
Glynn has also written The Rosewood Chronicles, a series for teens, but she says The Cursed Melodies “takes readers in a darker and more mysterious direction”.
“We’ve come a long way from the light and pretty land of my last book series, and I cannot wait to introduce readers to the beguiling tale of Astrid, Jonas and Gwen, our irreverent heroes. Theirs is a story I hope people can escape into, a story of soulmates, monsters and dark academies.”
Alsenas added: “At Penguin, we know that Connie has a magical ability of her own: writing stories that powerfully connect with teens all over the world. Her Rosewood Chronicles have created a unique community of readers, and with this new series they—as well as new readers—are in for a treat. The Cursed Melodies has big romantic feels, royal high jinks and a gripping fantasy adventure filled with dark magic.”
