Penguin has acquired two YA romance titles from Beth Reekles, author of The Kissing Booth series (Penguin).
The Summer Switch-Off, described as a funny and relatable coming-of-age story, and Sincerely Yours, Anna Sherwood, “a sizzling page-turning romance”, will both be published in 2023.
UK and Commonwealth rights were acquired by former PRH editor Sara Jafari and Naomi Colthurst, senior commissioning editor, from Clare Wallace of Darley Anderson.
The Summer Switch-Off publishes 11th May. The story follows Luna, Rory and Jodie during what is supposed to be the time of their lives but which turns out to be miserable.
The synopsis goes on: “In desperate need of an escape, they separately book a holiday that’s meant to be perfect for solo travellers. But the idyllic resort of Casa Dorada is actually a digital detox retreat. And that’s not the biggest disaster waiting for them. Will it be a summer the girls will never forget or one they’d rather not remember?”
Sincerely Yours, Anna Sherwood publishes 9th November and tells the story of Annalise and Llyod, two opposites who cannot stand each other. Yet when they find themselves on the same summer internship an unexpected connection occurs, the blurb outlines.
Reekles said: "I’m so thrilled to be working with the team at PRH on new YA books. It’s exciting to be sharing some new coming-of-age stories."
Colthurst added: “We are delighted to be continuing our highly successful YA publishing programme with Beth. Her dedicated fanbase love her for the same reasons we do: not only is she a brilliantly down-to-earth wit, with charmingly bookish obsessions, Beth is also a talented and dedicated writer who works hard to produce the sparkling romcoms she loves to read just as much as her fans do.”
