Piatkus has acquired a new book from Olympian Denise Lewis in six-way auction. Jillian Young, publisher of Piatkus non-fiction, acquired UK & Commonwealth rights to Adaptability: Seven Lessons to Thrive in a World of Competing Demands from Lauren Gardner at Bell Lomax Moreton in a six-way auction.
Denise Lewis DBE is a retired Team GB track and field athlete, who specialised in the heptathlon. She won the gold medal in the heptathlon at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Lewis was inducted into the UK Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011 and has twice been runner-up in BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year Awards in 1998 and 2000. Since retiring from athletics, she has become a broadcaster and sports pundit.
Her new book aims to help women "unlock the power of adaptability". The book will aim to show women how to be their own life-coach and how to meet the demands of the different roles they take on in life. She outlines the seven lessons she has taken from her time on and off the track, and "hopes women can reach their full potential, develop tools to pick themselves up and own their multifaceted identities at work and beyond".
Lewis said: "Adaptability was born out of taking a deep dive into my own experiences of confidence building, successes and embracing vulnerability. Finding the tools to thrive in challenging situations is the key to your personal sustainability and within that your happy place."
Young said: "I am in awe of Denise’s strength, intelligence and her ability to adapt her mindset to whatever situation she is in. I know women from all walks of life will find this book hugely inspirational. I can’t wait to unleash it into the world."
The book is set for publication in March 2025.
