Holly Harley, editorial director at Piatkus, has acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to psychotherapist and relationship coach Dr Gary McClain’s The Power of Closure.
Rights were acquired from Jane Finigan at Lutyens & Rubinstein. Marian Lizzi, editor-in-chief at TarcherPerigee, will be publishing in the US. Piatkus will publish in July 2024.
The publisher is touting the work as “the first popular guide to getting closure”, explaining why the promise of closure is so appealing – and why it’s not always all it’s cracked up to be.
McClain said: “Closure has been a recurring theme in my conversations with clients over the years, revolving around the question ‘How can I get closure?’ I came to the realisation that I just had to write a book on this topic. I am happy to see my book in print and hopefully to reach people who have been struggling with finding closure in their own lives. And it is a great honour to be published in the UK.”
Harley added: “We’ve all sought closure at some point in our lives. We have all experienced our efforts backfiring too. Gary’s empathetic, insightful guide is for anyone putting themselves back together after a fight, loss or heartbreak. It also reveals why the desire for closure can drive us to do bonkers things – and how we can replace those scratchy-brain urges with peace and compassion.”
