Sheila Norton, author of The Petshop at Pennycombe Bay (Ebury), is moving to Piatkus Fiction.
Anna Boatman, publisher of PCR Fiction, bought world rights in Norton’s two new books from Juliet Burton of Juliet Burton Literary Agency.
The first is The House on the Edge, about the growing friendship between a lonely old woman and a young journalist, which will publish in winter 2021. It promises "warmth, humour and above all convincing characterisation", according to Norton's agent.
Norton said: "I'm absolutely thrilled that Juliet has arranged for me to sign with Piatkus, and very excited to be working with Anna and her team on The House on the Edge."
Boatman said: "I couldn’t be more delighted to have Sheila’s heartwarming, delightful writing on our list. Her stories offer the best kind of escapism: characters who are so gloriously real, layered and kind that they leap off the page—it’s a world I know readers will want to step into!"
