Piatkus has acquired two novels by self-published New Zealand author Tammy Robinson in a "significant" five-figure deal.
The first book Differently Normal, originally self-published, is about a girl who has no time for love as she is the carer for her autistic sister. It will be published in 2018, while Robinson’s second book, Photos of You, will follow on in 2019.
Associate publisher Emma Beswetherick and Anna Boatman at Little, Brown Book Group, in their first joint acquisition for Piatkus fiction, did the deal for world rights with Vicki Marsdon at WordLink. Kate Stevens at Hachette Australia will publish Differently Normal in New Zealand, also in 2018, as part of the collaborative deal.
Differently Normal has garnered over 60 five-star reviews on Amazon UK, said Piatkus, calling the book "sweet, heartfelt and devastating".
Beswetherick said: "Differently Normal is a new one for me in its appeal to both a YA and adult audience, and we look forward to the opportunities open to us in publishing for both markets. It’s Me Before You meets The Fault in Our Stars, about a girl who cares for her autistic sister so has no time for love – until she meets him – and the ending still refuses to leave me, even weeks after I finished reading."
