Piatkus is publishing a pocket guide to living longer, introducing the Nordic concept of "sudhet" (soundness) following a four-way auction.
The Nordic Guide to Living 10 Years Longer: 10 Easy Tips to Live a Healthier, Happier Life, by Dr Bertil Marklund, will publish in April 2017. The book aims to "debunk myths" about what is and isn't good for us, giving examples such as drinking four cups of coffee a day can actually be good for health. The book's 10 chapters include: Exercise, Time to Recharge, Sleep, Sunbathing, Food, Drink, Weight, Flossing, Atitude and Relationships.
Its central concept, "sudhet", advocates a "balanced, even-keeled approach to a life of moderation". The acquisition follows a swathe of books on Hygge, a Danish concept loosely centring around the idea of "cosiness", for example from Orion, calling it the "hot new lifestyle philosophy" and Penguin, whose Little Book of Hygge is authored by an expert in happiness, Meik Wiking.
Author Dr Marklund, is a doctor and researcher at the Gothenburg University with over 40 years of experience.
Jillian Young, commissioning editor for Piatkus Non-Fiction acquired UK and Commonwealth rights for the title from Astri von Arbin Ahlander at the Ahlander Agency. The book has now been sold in over 20 territories.
Young said: "I was instantly hooked by Dr Marklund’s accessible tips and found myself telling everyone that things like sunbathing and coffee can actually add years to our lives. This beautiful little book is going to be a must-have for anyone who wants to learn how to live a longer, healthier life in under 150 pages."
Dr Marklund said: "My parents passed away too young and I wanted to find what choices I could make in my own life to spend more time with friends and family. I wrote this book to share my findings with as many people as possible. It has been a whirlwind summer as it travels the world and I couldn’t be happier that The Nordic Guide to Living 10 Years Longer has found such a fantastic home at Piatkus."
