Piccadilly Press has bagged I, Spy, a "thrilling" Bletchley Park mystery from Rhian Tracey.
Senior commissioning editor Ruth Bennett acquired world rights from Gillie Russell at The Found. The novel will be published in paperback, audio and e-book in March 2023.
With a cover illustration from David Dean, I, Spy is based on true historical events and inspired by Tracey’s aunt’s experience working as a code breaker at Bletchley. The synopsis reads: "When the war begins, Robyn isn’t allowed to leave the park and must sign the Official Secrets Act. But something sinister is happening at Bletchley and, while the adults are occupied with the war effort, Robyn is determined to get to the bottom of it."
Tracey commented: “I, Spy was such a fun book to write and kept me sane during lockdown. It’s a book close to my heart, inspired by my great-aunt, Audrey, a code breaker at Bletchley Park. I can’t wait for Ruth and her brilliant team to bring Robyn, Mary, and Ned’s story to readers around the world.”
Bennett added: “Rhian has an incredible talent for combining relatable characters and fascinating historical detail – the result is a thrilling adventure. Her writing is warm and immersive, and it shines a light on a fascinating place at a very particular moment of time. It’s a captivating story!”
