Penguin Michael Joseph has acquired two new adult titles from the bestselling self-published author Lulu Moore.
Hannah Smith, editorial director, acquired world all language rights to two romances from Georgana Grinstead at The Seymour Agency. Moore is the author of The New York Lions and The New York Players series, and The Tuesday Club trilogy. Her first title with Penguin Michael Joseph, Oar Than Friends, will publish in March 2024.
Oar Than Friends is a sports romance set against the backdrop of the famous Boat Race. “She’s rowing for Cambridge. He’s rowing for Oxford. A boat race to go down in history” the publisher teased.
Moore said: “The Boat Race is an iconic event in the British sporting calendar, and what could be more fun than building on the ingrained competitiveness than by threading a romance through it? I’m immensely grateful to Hannah, and the Penguin Michael Joseph family for taking this chance on me, and the little world of characters who’ve lived solely in my imagination until now.”
Smith added: “Words cannot quite describe how much I utterly adored Arthur and Kate’s story in Oar Than Friends. Lulu has perfectly brought to life the rivalry of Oxbridge alongside the sizzling chemistry of forbidden romance and world’s colliding. It hits all the notes of a masterfully crafted rom-com and readers everywhere are going to fall for a certain rower.”
