Penguin Michael Joseph (PMJ) has acquired William Mulligan’s book The Everyday Stoic: Simple Rules for a Good Life.
World rights to the “contemporary guide to Stoic philosophy” were bought by senior commissioning editor Karolina Kaim directly from the author. The Everyday Stoic will be published in spring 2024.
The publisher says the book encompasses lessons of ancient wisdom to help overcome adversity and find inner peace. Its description reads: “Drawing on the wisdom of classical thinkers, this book explores the ancient art of living a good life, providing readers with actionable advice on how to build resilience, overcome modern challenges and cultivate a sense of inner calm.”
Mulligan is the founder of "The Everyday Stoic" with an amassed social media following of over 950,000 followers across his YouTube and Instagram channels. The Everyday Stoic is his first book.
He said: “Stoicism helped me transition from an anxious, frightened and timid individual into someone unaffected by external circumstances, able to focus on my purpose and live fully in the present moment – and I hope to bring the wisdom on how to get there to the modern reader.”
Kaim said: “In times of crises we tend to turn to timeless philosophies, with stoicism taking the crown repeatedly. Enabling it to reach new, young audiences and facilitating growth of like-minded communities via online platforms make this message even more appealing.”
