Penguin Michael Joseph has snapped up a “warm and nostalgic” love letter to music by Take That’s Gary Barlow inspired by his one-man autobiographical stage show.
Charlotte Hardman, non-fiction publisher bought world all languages rights to A Different Stage from Amanda Harris at YMU. It will be published on 1st September.
The book promises to be “packed with never-before-seen archive material and exclusive backstage photos from the show" and will explore personal stories, candid insights, and the memories behind the songs we all know so well. The publisher described it as "a colourful, entertaining encyclopaedia of subjects important to his life - be it BMX bikes, the power of vulnerability, Blackpool, or the writing of the great ‘Back for Good’".
Barlow said: “A Different Stage is an idea I first sketched out four years ago, and I had no idea where it would go. I just wanted to share my personal journey through the last five decades — the highs and lows, the ups and downs. So this is me opening the curtains and sharing moments nobody has heard or seen before. To see it come to life now both on the stage and as a book is amazing, and I’m so grateful to my brilliant fans and the Penguin Michael Joseph team for all of their support.”
Hardman added: “Gary’s love of music and of family shines through on every page of A Different Stage. This incredibly intimate book is a beautiful celebration of Gary’s life and music career.”
