Podium Audio has landed a Philip C Quaintrell’s "epic" six-book fantasy series in a "major" six-figure deal.
Publisher Victoria Gerken acquired world English-language audio rights from Joanna Swainson at Hardman & Swainson. The first book, Once Were Heroes, will be released in January 2024 with the subsequent books to be published in nine to 12 month intervals after.
"Phil’s world building is incredible," said Swainson. "He breathes new life into the tropes of classic fantasy, and best of all – his books are long. Perhaps not long enough for some of his fans, who will be clamouring for more, but his listeners are in for a treat."
The A Time of Dragons series takes place in Verda’s ancient past, a setting familiar to readers of Quaintrell’s self-published works, when dragon riders have yet to have an impact on the realm.
Quaintrell is also known for his self-published nine-book fantasy series, The Echoes Saga, and the three-book The Ranger Archives. He commented: "I’m thrilled to be continuing my audio relationship with Podium Audio. The new deal certainly makes my work feel valued, and I’m looking forward to A Time of Dragons coming to ears around the world!"
Gerken said: “Podium has been proud to publish Philip C Quaintrell’s work in audio since he burst onto the literary scene with The Echoes Saga – to date we have 17 titles on the market and are proud to be Phil’s audio home. Our team is thrilled to bring A Time of Dragons to his fans and introduce new listeners to his fantasy world."
