Online platform The Pool is to publish two books with Pan Macmillan.
Carole Tonkinson, publisher of Pan Mac imprint Bluebird has acquired world rights to the titles.
The deal “marks an extension of Pan Macmillan’s wider Pool partnership”, which began when radio DJ Lauren Laverne and journalist Sam Baker first launched the platform in 2015. It has developed into a year-round programme of co-branded events, content and project development.
The first title in the new deal, My Everything Book, is a diary and organiser, whose first outing will be as an exclusive book for Christmas 2017 for Pool readers and partners, but then will be widely available in August 2018.
The second book, Life Honestly, will be a curation of the most popular pieces in four different subject areas with a host of original new writing from The Pool’s contributors, including an introduction by Baker. Published in November 2018, it is described as “the perfect Christmas present for Pool fans and beyond, and on the strength of the writing, it will also be a great self-purchase”.
Baker said: “Pan Macmillan are one of our long-standing partners at The Pool and we are delighted to be taking our first steps into print with them. Our audience love books, we help them with what to read on holiday, which authors to watch and which book to read at bedtime with reviews, comment, videos and audio, plus our weekly Bedtime Bookclub.”
She added: “This is our chance to give them more of The Pool in book form – the bullet journal, and later next year Life Honestly, will be just what they are looking for.”
Tonkinson said: “As an avid reader of The Pool, I can hardly believe our good fortune in partnering with Sam and the team. I love the fresh, challenging, smart voices in the Pool and it is going be so exciting to take their incredible digital content and brand into the physical world, with two beautiful books that I think women everywhere will love.”
The Pool "exists to champion female voices in the mobile age" broacasting to a regular schedule covering daily news, to fashion, food and film, work, books, health and beauty. It launched a crime writing competition earlier this year and contributing editor Caroline O’Donoghue’s debut novel will be published by Virago, it was revealed last month.
