'Powerful' pianist tale to Pushkin

ONE, an imprint of Pushkin Press, is to publish a "powerful" story of a virtuoso pianist's mental illness titled School of Velocity by debut novelist Eric Beck Rubin.

Elena Lappin, editor at ONE, acquired UK & commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) to the title from Rachel Clements at Abner Stein, on behalf of Andy Kifer of The Gernert Company.

Lappin said: 'Eric Beck Rubin writes with supreme precision and lyrical beauty, reminiscent of Oliver Sacks, about the impact of a complex friendship on the life of a young musician. I am very excited to add this unique gem to our growing list of exceptional debuts.'

ONE will publish in 2016/2017, following publication by Doubleday Canada in August 2016.
