Penguin Random House Children’s will next month publish a new edition of Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s book Swallows and Amazons to tie-in with the new film adaptation.
The new edition will feature a cover made using artwork from the film, so resembles the film poster. It will be published 4th August in paperback, priced at £7.99.
The film, out on 19th August, is produced by StudioCanal and directed by Philippa Lowthorpe. The screenplay was written by Andrea Gibb and is based on Ransom’s original text.
Swallows and Amazons, first published in 1930, is based in the Lake District, where the Walker children sail a boat called the Swallow to a nearby island. There they meet the Blackett children, who have a dinghy named Amazon, and the two groups agree to join forces with a common enemy, a man they call Captain Flint.
Ransom went on to write a series of novels about the Swallows and the Amazons and won the Carnegie medal for Pigeon Post in 1936.
