Penguin Random House Children’s has snared The Brothers Hawthorne by Jennifer Lynn Barnes and two more books also set in the world of her Inheritance Games series.
Publisher Anthea Townsend bought UK and Commonwealth rights in a three-book deal from Janelle DeLuise, subsidiary rights director of Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in the US.
The Brothers Hawthorne is a standalone title set following the events of the Inheritance Games series and will be published under the Penguin imprint in August 2023 alongside the US in a global English-language launch.
It will be followed by two further titles, yet to be announced, that will also feature the Hawthornes, Avery Grambs and their broadening circle of friends and enemies.
The publisher says The Brothers Hawthorne “returns to the world of the thrilling Inheritance Games trilogy and the stakes have never been higher". It added: "Drawn into twisted games on opposite sides of the globe, Grayson and Jameson – with the help of their brothers and the girl who inherited their grandfather’s fortune – must dig deep to decide who they want to be and what each of them will sacrifice to win…”
The Inheritance Games series has now sold 1.5 million copies globally, according to the publisher. As of March 2022, the series has been published in 22 languages across 25 territories.
Townsend said: “From the moment we read The Inheritance Games on submission back in April 2020, the PRH team and I were utterly gripped and knew we had something special in our hands. With its multiple twists, irresistible romance, the puzzle-filled family estate, and the privileged and complicated family full of dark secrets, it was a uniquely page-turning read.
“It’s been thrilling to see this reflected in Jen’s sales and the passionate global fandom around the series – that just continues to grow. Jen is a master storyteller, and in The Brothers Hawthorne the twists have never been twistier, the romance more compelling nor the stakes higher. We are so excited and proud to publish it next year and to have two more novels set in the world of the Inheritance Games to come after that.”
Barnes commented: “I’m thrilled to continue my partnership with Penguin Random House UK as we bring more books in the Inheritance Games world to life. In honour of my UK readers, The Brothers Hawthorne brings Avery Grambs and the Hawthorne brothers to London, where the adventure of a lifetime awaits. I could not be more excited to continue to work with the incredible team that has helped the Inheritance Games trilogy find readers in the UK and all over the world. Let the games begin!”
