Penguin Random House is publishing a book by behavioural experts Steve Martin and Joseph Marks exploring "the psychology of modern-day messengers".
In Messengers: Who We Listen To, Who We Don’t, and Why, the authors will draw on the latest research, while also turning to the worlds of punditry, business and politics, to explore why some people are able to deliver messages that are listened to, believed and acted upon - regardless of whether they are true or accurate - and others are not.
The book asks, and attempts to answer, "why are self-confident ignoramuses so often believed? Why are thoughtful experts so often given the cold shoulder? And why do apparently irrelevant details, such as a person’s height, their relative wealth, or their Facebook photo, influence whether or not we trust what they are saying?"
It will be published in hardback and e-book in March 2019. UK, Commonwealth and translation rights were bought by Nigel Wilcockson, publishing director at Random House Books, following a direct approach to the authors.
