Penguin Random House Children’s has sold Charlie Changes Into a Chicken, the debut children’s book by literary agent Sam Copeland, in 17 languages.
The book, acquired in a six-figure, pre-empt deal last year, is about schoolboy Charlie McGuffin, who changes into an animal in situations of heightened stress. With the school play approaching, his concerns are raised and he and his friends must figure out how to deal with his secret talent, and fast.
PRH Children’s has now sold rights in 17 languages, most recently in China. The other languages sold to date are: Romanian, Swedish, German, Dutch, Norwegian, Italian, French, Greek, Hungarian, Finnish, Danish, Portuguese, Turkish, Spanish, Czech and Polish.
Rights director Zosia Knopp said: “The rights team has huge ambition and enthusiasm for Charlie and it’s incredibly pleasing to see Sam’s humorous writing and charming cast of characters reaching so many international markets.”
PRH Children’s will publish Charlie Changes Into A Chicken will publish on 7th February 2019.
