Princeton University Press (PUP) has announced a new series, Little Books of Nature.
Robert Kirk, publisher for field guides and natural history, acquired world English rights from Unipress. The titles, covering trees, butterflies, beetles and spiders, will publish on 2nd April 2024.
"Packed with surprising facts and gorgeously designed – including foil-stamped cloth covers, colour photographs, and original artwork by illustrator Tugce Okay – these mini references are sure to beguile nature lovers the world over” the publisher said.
Kirk added: “These beautifully designed mini references punch way above their weight. Each title provides a carefully crafted overview of the biology and ecology of the fauna or flora under consideration, enhanced by unusual facts and fascinating insights.”
Each volume in the series is written by a subject expert and written for general readers. They are 4 x 6 inches in size and just over 150 pages.
The Little Book of Beetles is written by entomologist, author, photographer and teacher Arthur V Evans while The Little Book of Butterflies is by Andrei Sourakov, the collections coordinator at the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity at the Florida Museum of Natural History along with his daughter Alexandra Sourakov.
The Little Book of Spiders is written by spider biologist and natural history writer and photographer Simon D Pollard while The Little Book of Trees is authored by Herman Shugart, professor emeritus of natural history at the University of Virginia, and Peter White, professor emeritus of biology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
PUP said volumes on dinosaurs, fungi, weather, whales and other topics will follow in future.
