Profile Books will publish a new book by Ned Palmer, author of A Cheesemonger's History of the British Isles (also a Profile book).
Mark Ellingham, associate publisher, acquired all world language rights for A Cheesemonger's Compendium from David Luxton at David Luxton Associates. The book will be published "within the next year".
In the book, Palmer will describe 150 of his favourite artisan farmhouse cheeses from Britain and Ireland, as well as stories of "eccentric and colourful" cheesemakers both past and present.
Palmer commented: "I’ve spent most of the past month talking to cheesemongers about how they can survive without restaurants and cheeseshops to sell their wares. They are coming up with some brilliant ideas, often working together to create regional packages that can be sold online.
"I’m excited about doing a compendium to highlight just how many brilliant British and Irish cheeses are being made—and to give cheesemakers a bit of support and encouragement at a critical time. Blessed are the cheesemakers."
Ellingham added: "Ned already knows half the cheesemakers in the country, so he can research this book at home in Rotherhithe. And the results will be fun—and a celebration, much needed right now, of the best of British farm produce."
