Profile Books will publish Know Your Rights: The Law in 60 Seconds by Christian Weaver, an "essential and empowering handbook" for publication in autumn 2021.
Weaver is a pupil barrister who was called to the bar in 2016. He created his Youtube series "The Law in 60 Seconds" in 2018 to inform people of their rights and make the law accessible.
In Know Your Rights, Weaver will aim to give readers the confidence and knowledge to stand up for themselves and others in any legal situation. The handbook will cover everyday issues such as getting a refund, arguing with your landlord, going to a protest or feeling harassed, police conduct, travel and relationships.
Commissioning editor Louisa Dunnigan acquired UK and Commonwealth rights (excluding Canada) from Niki Chang while she was at the Good Agency. Chang now works at David Higham Associates.
Dunnigan said: "Everyone at Profile was blown away by the knowledge and passion of Know Your Rights. If you rent, work or travel; if you are in a relationship or want to take to the streets; if you’ve ever been wronged and want to set it right, Christian gives clear, thoughtful and applicable advice for how to identify and claim your rights. I’ve already learnt so much and I can’t wait to share this book with others. I could not be more thrilled to be publishing this urgent and informative book."
Weaver said: "It’s an honour to have the space to write this book–a trusty and portable guide to your legal rights and entitlements. In a period of such unprecedented change and uncertainty in society, its timing could not be more apt. I am delighted to have Profile Books on board, especially my editor Louisa Dunnigan, and my brilliant agent Niki Chang whose unwavering support and belief in my book and vision has been priceless."
