Profile Books has bought the "hilarious and soothing" Bedtime Stories for Worried Liberals by Guardian columnist Stuart Heritage.
The independent publisher's senior commissioning editor Cecily Gayford acquired world rights from Antony Topping at Greene & Heaton. Profile will publish in hardback in November 2019.
Bedtime Stories for Worried Liberals is aimed at those who feel overwhelmed by the news cycle and anxious about the state of "plastic pollution, Brexit and why everything seems to be so horrible all the time”.
"Put down your phone, log off Twitter, and let yourself be lulled to sleep by stories from a world where Brexit disappears in a puff of smoke, Waitrose is free, and fairy godmothers look a lot like Barack Obama,” Profile said.
Heritage is a writer and columnist for the Guardian, the Times, i and Esquire, and the author of Don't be a Dick, Pete (Square Peg). He has also written for a range of publications and television programmes, and founded and edited various blogs.
Gayford says: "I’m so thrilled to be publishing this book, which promises to be that special and all-too-rare combination of hilarious and soothing. I’ve been a fan of Stuart’s writing for years and it’s brilliant to be working together on this, truly a book for our troubled times."
Heritage said: "I’m excited to bring this book into existence especially because, as a worried liberal myself, it means I might actually get some sleep now."
