Puffin has scored a "positive and inspiring guide for life" by Lionesses Ella Toone, Georgia Stanway and Nikita Parris, who were part of the England Women’s UEFA Women’s Championship 2022 winning football team.
Commissioning editor Phoebe Jascourt acquired world rights in Three Lionesses: Find Your Team, Build Self-Belief, Embrace Your Inner Lioness from Bev James at Bev James Management. Written with positive psychology practitioner Cheryl Rickman, and with illustrations by Cat Sims, the book will publish in August 2023, hot on the heels of the Fifa Women’s World Cup 2023.
The publisher’s synopsis said: "Written for readers 9+, Three Lionesses takes some of the many lessons that the players have learned from football, and shows how these apply to everyday life, whether it’s joining a new squad, stepping up to take a penalty or getting back up when life (or a footballer) knocks you down.
"With sections from their individual perspectives and others written together, the book is packed with inspiring personal anecdotes, helpful tips and practical activities, and has a special focus on friendship, teamwork and succeeding as women in a male-dominated world."
Jascourt said: "It has been so inspiring to see Ella, Georgia and Nikita talking so openly about their personal experiences and how they got to where they are now, to empower the next generation. With messages of friendship and female empowerment at its core, this book feels incredibly universal, special, uplifting and fun – a perfect gift for children to talk about with their friends, whether they are football fans or not."
Toone added: "After winning the Euros, we wanted to use our voices and our platform to make sure girls don’t feel held back in any way. I’m buzzing to bring this book out so we can inspire the next generation to believe in themselves."
Stanway commented: "Teamwork has played a massive part in us achieving what we have. That’s why the three of us wanted to join forces and share what we’ve learned. We hope that together, Three Lionesses can inspire and empower young girls to be proud of who they are."
Parris said: "For me, making a difference has always been a real driver. So, as well as inspiring a new generation to try sports and pursue their dreams, Three Lionesses encourages readers to think about their own purpose and contribution to the world."
