Quarto has signed Grand Designs at 25, a selection of the eponymous programme’s "most impressive and memorable houses" from the last 25 years, from presenter Kevin McCloud.
World all-language rights were acquired by Denise Bates, group publishing director, from Fremantle Media. The book will be published under the White Lion imprint on 5th September 2024.
Grand Designs at 25 "offers a unique opportunity for viewers [of the show] and readers to see how the properties have fared over that time and how their longer-term vision has been realised". McCloud highlights the houses’ key features and why the designs work while providing a "fascinating view" of how home design has changed to reflect contemporary lifestyle.
Bates said: "There are very few TV series which can lay claim to becoming a part of everyday vernacular but a ‘Grand Design’ has now entered our vocabulary to denote an ambitious, boundary-pushing self-build. The brilliant Kevin McCloud has been at the helm from the outset, and his selection for this book celebrates and showcases the most outstanding houses from across those 25 years, with his insightful commentary throughout."
McCloud added: "Being a part of ’Grand Designs’ for the last 25 years has been an extraordinary privilege. I’ve met remarkable people, discovered hidden places on the planet and experienced amazing architecture. Writing the new book has given me new insight into the achievements of the last 25 years and if anything, this landmark moment helps us see more clearly where the series is going."
