Quarto's non-fiction trade imprint, White Lion Publishing, is collaborating with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew on a new series of illustrated, "giftable and practical" gardening companions launching in spring 2019.
Helen Griffin, editorial director at White Lion Publishing, acquired world rights to The Kew Gardener’s Guide series from Gina Fullerlove, publisher at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The deal follows on from previous partnerships with Kew including The Gardener’s Guide to Medicinal Plants which, according to Quarto, has sold more than 10,000 copies and has been translated into five languages.
Jessica Axe, associate publisher at White Lion Publishing, called the collaboration "a real honour", promising the books will be "both aesthetically stunning and packed full of vital information".
Launch titles in the new series are The Kew Gardener’s Guide to Growing Herbs and The Kew Gardener’s Guide to Growing House Plants. They will be followed in autumn 2019 by Growing Fruit and Growing Bulbs. Further titles are planned for 2020.
Combining botanical illustrations from the Kew archives with "compelling practical projects", all the book have either been written or endorsed by experts from the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. There will be an extensive joint PR and marketing campaign to support the launch.
