Quercus has acquired the “provocative” 28-day guide to anti-racism and recognising white privilege by Layla Saad.
Editorial director Jane Sturrock bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Lorella Belli at Lorella Belli Literary Agency Ltd on behalf of Folio Literary Management. Me and White Supremacy: A 28-day journey to kickstart your life-long anti-racism work will be published on 4th February 2020.
The book began life as a viral challenge for people with white privilege to examine and take responsibility for their part in upholding white supremacy. When it took off, Saad self-published her workbook and saw it downloaded 75,000 times in the first three months.
Quercus has billed it as the book to read after Why I'm No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Renni Eddo-Lodge (Bloomsbury Circus).
Sturrock said: “Me & White Supremacy is one of the most challenging and provocative books I have read. Layla explains concepts like white privilege, white fragility, tone policing, white silence, and helped me see how I as a white person benefit from these things, often without even realising it, and the ways in which that can be harmful to black and indigenous people of colour. It is a perspective-shifting book and we are thrilled to be working with Layla to take this important anti-racism resource to a wider audience.”
