Quercus is to publish author Adrienne Young’s adult debut Spells for Forgetting in the UK on 27th September 2022, alongside Delacorte in the US.
Publisher Cassie Browne and assistant editor Kat Burdon acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Rachel Kind at PRH US.
Set on a fictional island off the coast of Washington, the publisher calls Spells for Forgetting "an evocative, deeply atmospheric novel of lost love and the unravelling of a small town steeped in secrets and superstition".
Browne said: “Kat and I are completely thrilled to be working with Adrienne and her team at Delacorte on this magical novel. Spells for Forgetting is a breathtaking and immersive read-in-one-sitting sort of book that weaves setting and story together in such a compelling way. We cannot wait to publish here and to invite UK readers to discover the island of Saoirse."
Young is the author of the Sky in the Deep duology (Wednesday Books) and the Fable series (Title Books). Her books have been published in multiple countries and Fable was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club YA Pick in October 2020.
She said: “Seeing this book come to life has been such an incredible experience. Spells for Forgetting has so many things I love about storytelling wrapped up in one book—small-town mysteries, mystical settings, heart-aching romance… the list goes on. I’m so happy that it’s found a home at Quercus Books and I can’t wait for Spells to find its readers in the UK.”
