Quercus has acquired three new titles from the author of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k, Sarah Knight.
The first two books will continue the No F*cks Given Guides series, beginning with Calm the F**k Down, described as "a practical approach to managing stress and solving problems", followed by The Joy of No: How to Say What You Really Mean Without Being Really Mean.
The third in the deal is I Knew This Was A Bad Idea, a collection of personal essays pitched as "Caitlin Moran meets Bryony Gordon and Dolly Alderton (over cocktails)". It will be published in 2020.
Non-fiction editorial director Jane Sturrock bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Nancy Wiese at Little, Brown in the US.
According to Sturrock, Quercus has now sold over 750,000 copies of Knights books across all editions, with The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k continuing to be one of Quercus’s bestselling titles two years after publication. Through Nielsen, the paperback of The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k has sold 203,597 copies, with the hardback selling a further 23,122.
"It’s fair to say that her books have struck a chord with readers who want to share in her secret to living a happy life," commented Sturrock. "A big part of that is knowing what to do when the shit hits the fan, so Sarah’s next book promises just that: how to control what you can and accept what you can’t, so you can stop freaking out and get on with your life."
Knight will be coming to the UK in January 2019 to launch Calm the F**k Down, when she will undertake a high-profile national author PR campaign alongside booksigning events.
Another title – the Get Your Sh*t Together Journal, described as her first "interactive" book – publishes with Quercus in the UK on 28th June 2018.
