Jo Fletcher Books, an imprint of Quercus, has snapped up a two books in a "fast moving deal" from E J Swift including The End Where We Begin and the republication of Swift’s Arthur C Clarke shortlisted novel, The Coral Bones.
Publishing director Anne Perry acquired world rights from Margaret Halton at PEW Literary. Originally published by Unsung Stories in 2022, Jo Fletcher Books will republish The Coral Bones first in e-book in October 2023 and then in paperback in January 2024. The End Where We Begin will be published in 2025.
The End Where We Begin follows two women from the present and five decades in the future as they work to re-wild devastated landscapes. It is a story of "survival and hope" exploring "the actions of two individuals as they struggle to overcome the greatest challenge of our time".
Swift commented: "I’m absolutely delighted that The Coral Bones will be reissued by Jo Fletcher Books and for the novel to find a new readership and build on the fantastic work done by Unsung Stories. I’m thrilled to be working with Anne Perry, who has been hugely supportive of my work over the years, and I couldn’t have found a better home for The Coral Bones and my next novel."
Perry added: "E J is one of those extraordinary authors whose work develops exponentially with each book she writes. The authenticity of her writing is undeniable, but what really sets her apart is her soaring imagination, and the lyricism of her prose. I’m so delighted to be bringing her to the list, to be giving The Coral Bones a new home, and I am genuinely shivering with excitement to read what she writes next, and to see where her astonishing imagination takes her."
