Quercus has signed two new books by Newcastle-based crime writer Trevor Wood, whose debut The Man on the Street won the CWA John Creasey New Blood Dagger and was shortlisted for the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year.
Publisher Jane Wood acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to the two novels from Oli Munson at A M Heath. Mind Games, the first, will be published in hardback, trade paperback, e-book and audio in July 2024.
Mind Games will launch a Newcastle-based police procedural series featuring a senior DCI with a secret. He is in the first stages of early onset dementia. In the vein of "Elisabeth Is Missing", the series will chart his inexorable decline and the steps he must take to hide his secret and try to keep on top of the job.
Jane Wood says: ‘It has been a real privilege to launch Trevor Wood’s writing career at Quercus. His work shows that it’s possible to explore pressing social concerns while at the same time adhering to the genre’s demands of telling a heart-pounding story. We’re excited to be continuing the journey with this ambitious new series.”
Trevor Wood commented: “I’m thrilled to remain part of the superb Quercus team and really looking forward to working with them again on a challenging new series, which I hope will not only entertain readers but shine a light on the difficulties facing so many people these days.”
