Quercus has acquired I’m The Problem, It’s Me by existential psychotherapist, Sara Kuburic.
Publishing director Jane Sturrock pre-empted UK and Commonwealth rights from Lorella Belli at Lorella Belli Literary Agency on behalf of Folio Literary Management. Quercus will publish on 19th September.
The synopsis reads: “So many of us feel lonely, unfulfilled, or trapped in our roles and relationships, in cycles of self-sabotage and wrong decisions, by our toxic patterns and misguided attempts to feel happy—or to feel something. Many of us struggle to like the person we see in the mirror. According to Sara Kuburic, it doesn’t have to be so difficult. Really. Instead of pushing harder or running faster, the secret lies in taking full responsibility for the choices and actions that create our reality.
“It’s about slowing down, cutting through the clutter of demands and expectation, and finally taking ownership of this person we call our ‘Self’. Eye-opening and inspiring, I’m the Problem, It’s Me shows how we can stop sleepwalking our way through the lives we don’t want and step into our most meaningful self.”
Sturrock said: “I’m the Problem, It’s Me takes a completely new approach to exploring one’s sense of self and identity so this proposal really stood out on submission. As an existential psychotherapist, Sara knows how to ask the deep philosophical questions about our psychology and how to help people find the answers. It is thoughtful, wise and soulful."
Kuburic, an existential psychotherapist, consultant, write, and columnist for USA Today, said: “‘Who am I?’ and ‘Why am I here?’ are universal questions. Who hasn’t struggled to answer them at some point in their lives? I wrote this book for all of us who are looking for a way to live a true, connected, authentic and meaningful life. Writing this was an opportunity for me to finally share some of my personal story and discuss a topic that is so dear to my heart – self-loss.”
