Quercus has bought two books from American author Adrienne Young.
Editor Kat Burdon acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Rachel Kind, director of foreign rights at PRH US. Quercus will publish the first book in the deal, The Unmaking of June Farrow, on 17th October alongside PRH US imprint Delacorte in the US in hardback, trade paperback, e-book and audio.
Set in a small mountain town in North Carolina, The Unmaking of June Farrow follows its eponymous protagonist as she risks all to solve the mystery of her mother’s disappearance and to free herself from the centuries-old curse that has long haunted her family. Quercus said: “After her grandmother dies, a series of clues leads June Farrow to a mysterious door. Upon crossing the threshold, June embarks on a journey that will not only change both past and future, but entangle her fate and her heart in a star-crossed love. Beautifully written and hauntingly atmospheric, The Unmaking of June Farrow is an unforgettable story full of romance, mystery and a touch of the impossible.”
Based in North Carolina, Young is the internationally bestselling author of Spells for Forgetting (Quercus), the Fable series and the Sky & Sea duology. Her books have been published in more than 25 countries and Fable was a Reese’s Bookclub YA Pick.
Burdon said: “Adrienne is a singular talent, and it is a true joy to get lost in one of her novels – from the beautiful settings to the characters who stay with you and the way the mystery unfolds so tantalisingly. We loved publishing Spells for Forgetting and are thrilled to be working with Adrienne and her team at Delacorte once more.”
