Radar, an imprint of Octopus Books, has acquired Now That I Have Your Attention: 7 Lessons in Leading a Life Bigger Than They Expect by Nicolas Hamilton.
Publisher Briony Gowlett acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in a seven-way auction from Abigail Bergstrom at Bergstrom Studio and will publish in all formats on 11th April 2024.
Born with a form of cerebral palsy, Hamilton was told at 18 months old that he would never walk and would need a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Today he not only walks everywhere but is the first disabled driver ever to compete at the top level of British motor sport, The British Touring Car Championship, where he lines up on the grid with some of the world’s best drivers.
Now That I Have Your Attention is Hamilton’s story “as told through the tough and sometimes surprising lessons he’s learned in his lifetime”.
Gowlett said of the acquisition: “The special thing about Nicolas is his ability to make his unique experiences and viewpoint feel shared by and applicable to the many. His achievements show that outgrowing the limits people put on you, regardless of your life situation, is possible.”
Hamilton commented: “I was just a boy with a dream, and even though I was born with cerebral palsy and told I would never walk, I still fought for it against the odds and in spite of those who told me I couldn’t do it. I want to write this book in service of others, to share my story – the highs, the deep lows and the things you might struggle to believe – so that readers might be inspired to push their own boundaries and limits, regardless of their situation and the hand they were dealt.”
