Radar, part of the Octopus Publishing Group, has scooped At Home with the Buckleys by comedy actor James Buckley, best known for playing Jay in “The Inbetweeners”, and his wife, actress Clair Buckley.
Publisher Briony Gowlett acquired world rights from Adam Strange at Gleam Futures and it will publish on 29th September 2022.
The publisher describes At Home with The Buckleys as one couple’s take on the wild ride that is modern marriage, parenting and adulting. “Told from both sides, Clair and James share a collection of hilarious stories and comedy excursions from their early lives, years of cult TV fame, having children and setting up their YouTube channel,” its synopsis continues.
The pair’s YouTube channel, "At Home with The Buckleys", was created in November 2020, has a following of 147,000 and more than 10 million video views. In addition to their YouTube audience, James Buckley is a successful content creator on the streaming platform Twitch, and both he and Clair Buckley have growing followings on Instagram.
Gowlett said of the announcement: “Like the thousands of other people who tuned in to Clair and James’ videos to get them through some of the grimmest points of lockdown, and continue to follow their content, I’ve loved watching how they tackle everything life throws at them – with genuine humour and relatability. Together they are a force and I’m excited to be working with such an incredibly talented and downright hilarious couple on their first book."
James and Clair said: “We are so excited to be working with Briony and the team at Radar on our first book! If you’re looking for a window into the glamorous, jet-set lifestyles of the rich and famous, then… well, you should probably pick something else to read. But we do have some great stories from when we were cool – you know, pre-kids – the sort that start with us backstage at the Stone Roses, eating chicken with Ian Brown. We still have some great stories post-kids, but they mainly start at the garden centre or the local soft play. Either way, we hope what we have created is a fun, honest little book about modern family life, with a clear message that, in the end, we’re all just working it out as we go along.”
