Renegade Books has acquired Sir Trevor McDonald’s memoir, On Cricket, celebrating his dedication for cricket and his dual homes of Britain and Trinidad.
Dialogue managing director Sharmaine Lovegrove acquired world rights to On Cricket from Robert Caskie at Robert Caskie Ltd to be published by Renegade Books on 17th October 2024.
The publisher described it as “a moving and rousing sporting memoir”. Dialogue added: “In this inspirational memoir, On Cricket, Sir Trevor explores his childhood in the Caribbean and celebrates his lifelong love of the sport that followed him no matter where in the world his illustrious journalistic career would take him.
“Sir Trevor offers a wide-ranging commentary on cricket as a common language between England, the West Indies and beyond – a sense of belonging that knows no borders – and celebrates cricket as an engine of national identity and an essential feature of daily life and community.”
Dialogue added: “An exceptional storyteller and commentator, On Cricket is a love letter to the sport and a study of Sir Trevor’s oldest and most consistent passion: watching, debating and playing the gentleman’s game.”
McDonald said: “Cricket has been a lifelong passion of mine, so when the opportunity arose to write this book for Dialogue I was thrilled. It has been such a pleasurable experience from start to finish as Sharmaine and all her team have been so supportive, professional and good-humoured throughout.”
Caskie commented: “It is always a joy to work with Sharmaine and her colleagues at Dialogue as they are such a committed, professional and happy team, making any author immediately feel at ease with and confident in the whole process of publication.”
Lovegrove said: “It’s been a pleasure and an honour to work with one of our most beloved national treasures Sir Trevor, with a book that celebrates his devotion to cricket and his love for his homes of Britain and Trinidad. As a team we have been bowled over with Sir Trevor’s wit, wisdom and professionalism and it’s always a joy to work with Robert Caskie”.
