Robinson Psychology is publishing a Nobel Prize-winning neuroscientist, Professor Eric R Kandel. His book, The Disordered Mind, will be a new popular science book exploring the architecture of brain, publishing in February 2018.
The book will consider every aspect of brain function, including perception, action, memory, volition, motivation, emotion, empathy, social interaction, thought, attention and consciousness. Studying where these functions go wrong provides "a window to the healthy brain", argues Kandel, and makes it more likely that scientists and clinicians will be able to develop effective treatments or preventative strategies. As individuals, and as a society, it will also help to better understand and empathise with people with mental disorders.
Editorial director Andrew McAleer acquired English language UK and Commonwealth rights to the title from James Pullen at The Wylie Agency. Farrar, Straus and Giroux hold North American rights.
McAleer said: “It’s a real honour to be publishing such a prestigious work by so eminent a figure as Professor Kandel. This work is his definitive statement on the brain and its associated disorders – a summary of a life spent at the cutting edge of neuroscience.”
