Robinson has signed One Life: The True Story of Sir Nicholas Winton, the life story of Nicholas Winton who rescued 669 children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, by his daughter Barbara Winton.
Editorial director Emma Smith acquired world English rights from Olivia Edwards at Curtis Brown. The book will be published in paperback, e-book and audio on 30th November 2023.
One Life was originally self-published in 2014 and is now also the basis for a film of the same name starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Flynn.
Winton is know as a the "British Schindler" after he saved hundreds of children from Nazi-occupied territory and found them homes in the UK. "His life story", the publisher wrote, "is a clarion call to choose action over apathy in the face of injustice and a reminder that every one of us can change the world".
Smith said: "Not only is this an incredible account of Sir Nicholas Winton’s life, but the lessons we take from the book remain relevant today. Barbara and her father are no longer with us, but it is a great privilege to be publishing such a special story and to continue building the legacy captured in this book so beautifully. I hope many readers and film viewers will be inspired by the impact that one man had on so many lives."
Stephen Watson (Sir Nicholas Winton’s son-in-law, Barbara Winton’s husband) said: "I believe that this account of Nicky’s life written by his daughter, my late wife Barbara Winton, offers inspiration to readers to take action when warranted; to shine a light, find a way, make the effort on behalf of others. As in 1939, today’s world is desperately in need of people prepared to stand up and follow Nicky’s example of taking positive actions however small to bring others to a place of safety and wellbeing."
